Unquestionably, GEICO has produced some of the funniest insurance commercials out there. Who doesn’t recognize their caveman spots or that adorable little gecko with the British accent and bright eyes? Some of their most clever recent ads, however, are built around the question, “Can Geico save you 15% or more on care insurance.” The Abe and Mary Todd Lincoln “backside look big” spot built on that theme is an absolute masterpiece of comedic timing.
Not to be outdone, Allstate has created its “Mayhem” character, who appears in a series of ads showing just how many unexpected and catastrophic things really can happen in day to day life. The message here is not just that fate is fickle, but that he has a wicked sense of humor and is clearly out to get you. Look at what happens when Mayhem meets your out-of-date GPS:
Nationwide is trading on “The World’s Greatest Salesperson” with his retro low-tech blue “mobile” phone, “man on the street” microphone, silly jingle, and wholly improbably logic. Interestingly, their primary point is that you can’t get both personal attention and cheap rates if you shop for insurance online, a clear indication that the company is feeling some sales heat from the net.
Progressive’s spokeswoman, Flo, has become something of a celebrity in her own right. Appearing in her pristine white and blue sales environment, she doles out clever assurances that her life is about much, much more than just helping customers find affordable rates, while emphasizing the wide range of coverage products her company offers.
Of course, no look at funny insurance commercials would be complete without at least one Bangkok Insurance spot. Okay. Three. This video is a priceless compilation of this company’s quirky appeal to consumers and explains why they are a YouTube staple.
These ads all have one thing in common. They’re trying to tell you their company has the cheapest insurance rates on the market with the highest trust profile and the greatest variety of options. The truth is, there’s only one way you’re going to find the affordable, inexpensive coverage that works for you — comparison shopping. And, the best way to do that is with an online quote comparison engine.
Just because you shop for the cheapest rates online doesn’t mean you won’t be getting personal attention from your insurer. Searching for inexpensive prices is just a prelude to the necessary coverage conversation. For instance, what other discounts can you work out of the deal? If you take out multiple policies with one company will they give you a discount? Can your driving habits help you to get cheaper auto insurance?
Go right ahead and laugh at the commercials. They’re funny and we all enjoy them, but remember, the person who best protects your interests in any insurance negotiation is you. By using the simple tools at your disposal to shop for the cheapest rates on the most comprehensive coverage available, you’re going to be the one who gets the last laugh.
